When it comes to Image
Library Software,
One size fits all - right?

Erm, actually, no
When we wanted to put our own images online
for sale as an image library, we hunted around the web for a
solution. We even purchased an existing package and attempted
to get it to work for us.
Eventually, however, we realised that in order
to retain control of our assets and to make the most of them
on our terms, what we needed was a solution built around our
needs.
Happily, as we are also web designers and programmers,
we were able to do just that &
created AvidImages.com,
which has been trading successfully since August 2006.
AvidImages offers us the following key benefits:
- Designed specifically for optimum
search engine performance
- Auto-generation of all required
files from a single hi-res photo, including watermarked view
image
- Clean and simple user interface, full css
styling, Priority 1 accessibility
- Multiple lightboxes for registered
users
- Unlimited price band definitions for easy application
to selected images
- Imports Photoshop image IPTC metadata for
Title, Description and Keywords directly into the database
- Currently
offers a PayPal transaction gateway and can be configured
to any payment processor
- Monthly sales figures by author and
registered site user, downloadable as a CSV spreadsheet file
- Easy
administration processes: category creation, image management,
images in multiple categories
- Built on an open source platform
for customisation and enhancements to changing requirements
Of course the next thought that occurred to
us was that this may be something that we should offer to other
photographers and holders of image assets.
Utilising the core AvidImages framework,
which we've called asset8,
we can offer a high degree of customisation around your specific
requirements.
asset8 is
ideal for both public-facing commercial photolibraries and also
for password protected asset collections aimed at clients and
limited access user groups.
We would be delighted to have an informal chat
about your needs and to give you an idea of costs and timescales
in creating your own image library.
